| CUSTOM KITCHEN VS. CUSTOM KITCHEN That’s an interesting concept, custom vs.custom... But, I seem to run into it all the time. Let me explain. When I was growing up, I remember new kitchens involved an old time carpenter/ craftsman meeting with a customer and building, from scratch, cabinetry that filled every nook and cranny of available space. Because it was a one on one basis the cabinetry best matched the overall character of the home, not to mention the needs and style of the homeowner themselves. Design, ergonomics, and layout have come a long way since then and having a CKD involved is a real benefit. But where did all the old time craftsman go? If you try ordering a custom kitchen from other places, is it really custom? Or instead are they faxing or emailing an order 5 states away to a factory that you will never see, with people building your cabinets that you will never meet. A factory that is turning out 100 cabinets/day with zero grain selection, no concern for how well the sink cabinet matches the drawer base next to it and their largest worry is profit margin.
